Its strongest case is for travelers already comfortable with Citi's ecosystem and able to use premium benefits naturally. Value recurring credits at the amount they replace in the normal budget, add realistic travel and point value, and subtract the annual fee plus any portal opportunity cost. Exclude the welcome offer from the renewal decision.

For year two, remove the one-time welcome offer entirely. To recover a $595 fee from rewards alone, this card must produce that much more value than your best no-fee alternative.
