United Quest Card
Chase
Welcome Offer
Our take
A higher-fee United card for travelers with enough annual United activity to use its statement benefits, award features, and travel perks. It occupies an awkward middle ground when flying is inconsistent: more expensive than an entry airline card, but not a substitute for every premium airport benefit.
Best for
- ✓ Frequent United flyers
- ✓ Travelers redeeming United miles regularly
- ✓ Cardholders whose planned United purchases trigger the main recurring benefits
Not ideal for
- — Infrequent flyers
- — People without practical United routes
- — Travelers seeking airline-neutral rewards
Conservative break-even test
Use the previous year's United transactions to value credits, bag savings, and award benefits. Subtract any fare premium paid to remain loyal and exclude the welcome offer. If planned United activity is uncertain, a lower-fee or flexible card is safer.
First year vs. ongoing year worksheet
For year two, remove the one-time welcome offer entirely. To recover a $350 fee from rewards alone, this card must produce that much more value than your best no-fee alternative. At a 1% incremental return, that would require about $35,000 in eligible annual spend before counting credits you would genuinely buy anyway.
